Dodd (D-CT) announces his retirement.
Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is expcted to get the Democrat nomination. Peter Schiff slams this maneuver. Replacing Dodd with a Dodd-clone will do no good.
As for Chris Dodd, well... his political allies are making sure that he gets taken care of. Politicians always take care of their own.
Peter Schiff for Senate.
Via Minnesota Chris - Peter Schiff on why he should be Senator:
This web-log calls for the repeal of the 17th Amendment and addresses the hegemony committed by the US Senate. The first significant step to remove the domination and unmistakable corruption deriving from the National Government and the restoration of the Federal is to repeal the 17th Amendment. Americans should fear the steady hegemonic growth by the Senate oligarchy because the US Constitution cannot be spoiled by bombs, the courts, or the President, but only through malevolent legislation.

Stossel and Schiff: Change Is Easy; Progress Is Hard
John Stossel:
Yesterday the AP reported that productivity gains may be "bad for workers". More productivity is BAD for workers? Seriously?
What nonsense. Reporters once said automation would kill jobs. Then they say computers would kill jobs. They did take jobs from secretaries. But total employment kept rising.
The AP reporter said "as long as companies can get their workers to produce more, they have little reason to hire."
When workers are more productive, profit margins rise. That gives companies even MORE reason to hire.
...
From 1993 to to 2002, 309 million jobs were lost. I'd say that was a terrible thing, except during the same period 327 million jobs were created. A net gain of 18 million jobs. That's creative destruction.
The mindset that higher productivity will cost people jobs has led to foolish attacks on progress.
Progress happens when the government stays out of the way. The government's change just makes things worse.

Schiff: It's Worse Than You Think
And it's going to get even worse before it gets better, if it gets better at all.
Schiff announced that he's running for Senator in Connecticut this morning. That would be a small step in the right direction.

Healing America's Health Care System (Video)
Senator Spector doesn't know that the current bill contains individual mandates. How can we expect Senators to fix our problems when they don't know what the problem is and they don't even know what's in the medicine they're trying to give us?
Senators aren't doing their job because the people aren't holding them accountable. The original bicameral legislature allowed state legislatures to hold Senators accountable and the people to hold their representatives accountable. Subjecting members of both houses to elections is a redistribution of responsibility which causes the people to not know whom to hold accountable. When people have one representative, they know whom to blame. When the people have lots of representatives, they don't know.
Repealing the 17th Amendment would allow people to focus on holding their elected representative accountable. That's the first step toward fixing our broken electoral system.

How to Save the World
Peter Schiff is a man with a plan:
Of course, this would mean being strategic in what nominees to support. There's no reason to nominate a candidate who can't win an election. I highly recommend a prerequisite of support for repealing the 17th Amendment. I just wonder if there's still time.
