Stossel: Does Your Vote Matter?

My FBN show tonight asked: "Do we really want everyone to vote?" Lots of people don’t know much at all about even basic American history. And why vote when we have such lousy choices? At the moment, the choice is between Democrats who gave us stimulus, Obamacare and a trillion dollar deficit... and Republicans who gave us prescription drug entitlements and the largest increase in federal spending since LBJ's Great Society. Whichever choice we make, the only result seems to be MORE government.

There's also a web-only segment that you can watch on Stossel's blog.

The source of all tyranny is the belief that freedom does not promote virtue.

Stossel Next Thursday!

Because I gotta!

My new Fox Business Network TV show begins next Thursday night, 8pm!

I want to do the first show on Atlas Shrugged...

Rand's understanding of free markets and individual liberty was, and still is, rare among novelists. In an era of bailouts, stimulus plans, and trillion-dollar deficits, her new-found popularity should be a cause for celebration.

John Stossel on ClimateGate

I'm not an O'Reilly fan, but Stossel makes a lot of sense here. There's no point in spending trillions and trillions on a ghost of a chance when there are tens of millions dying of malaria, poverty, and malnourishment.

The global warming cult is killing people. This is just a call for a more powerful, centralized government.

And the really bad thing is that, by their discrediting science and crying "wolf" all the time, people become deaf to real problems that kill real people.

John Stossel - There's No Rule of Law

When the law is so complex that no one knows what it is, there is no rule of law. The Senate kept the federal government in check before the 17th Amendment. The only way to re-establish the rule of law is to repeal the 17th Amendment.

And make sure to catch Stossel at 8:00 on Thursdays!

Stossel and Schiff: Change Is Easy; Progress Is Hard

John Stossel:

Yesterday the AP reported that productivity gains may be "bad for workers". More productivity is BAD for workers? Seriously?

What nonsense. Reporters once said automation would kill jobs. Then they say computers would kill jobs. They did take jobs from secretaries. But total employment kept rising.

The AP reporter said "as long as companies can get their workers to produce more, they have little reason to hire."

When workers are more productive, profit margins rise. That gives companies even MORE reason to hire.

...

From 1993 to to 2002, 309 million jobs were lost. I'd say that was a terrible thing, except during the same period 327 million jobs were created. A net gain of 18 million jobs. That's creative destruction.

The mindset that higher productivity will cost people jobs has led to foolish attacks on progress.

Progress happens when the government stays out of the way. The government's change just makes things worse.

John Stossel Moving to FOX

Stossel, best known for his work as co-anchor of ABC News' "20/20," will anchor "Stossel," [sic] a weekly program on FOX Business Network, and make regular appearances on FOX News Channel, it was announced Thursday.

The one-hour program will feature in-depth reports on domestic and international libertarian issues and will debut during the fourth quarter of this year in FBN's primetime lineup. Stossel and a panel of experts will explore a wide range of topics including civil liberties, the business of health care and Social Security.

He will also host a series of one-hour specials on FOX News Channel and write a blog called "Stossel's Take."

John Stossel will have a larger audience on FOX, but he'll likely be preaching to the choir. As he's noted himself time and again, conservatives will at least listen to him, but liberals are the ones who engage in more hateful attacks. Undoubtedly, FOX News will also see their ratings rise as faithful Stossel fans tune in each week to see what the most famous libertarian in network news is up to.

The Trouble with Lawyers

“The reason tort reform is not in the [health care] bill is because the people who wrote it did not want to take on the trial lawyers in addition to everybody else they were taking on. And that’s the plain and simple truth.

Charles Krauthammer says that "the trial lawyers on the Democrat party." Aren't lawyers supposed to fight for the little guy? Well, John Stossel did an investigation into this not too long ago, and here's what he reported:
