Bryd Needs to Retire

Addressing the president in absentia, Sen. Byrd began by warning that Congress retains all its original powers under the Constitution.

"You better read that again in the Constitution," Byrd said, declaring that the Senate's powers include "serving as a court of impeachment.

"You better believe it, Mr. President," Byrd continued. "The Senate can send you home. You better believe that."

Comments: It is too bad the voters of West Virginia have not stood up and did the right thing by sending Byrd a message; time to retire! But like most states that enjoy a higher percentage of federal funds received than what they send to Washington in taxes, they elect the one guy that will keep federal funds rolling in so states that are prosperous can pick up their tab.

America is slowing sinking thanks to the poor quality of congressmen we have today, but most particularly in the Senate. Will we ever learn that buying power only to set oneself up for a run at the White House is strangling this country? Probably not while special interest groups can roll into a Senator’s offices with little concern for their state or country. Byrd truly is a symptom of the malaise in the Senate. Again the only way for this kind of nonsensical outbursts to end is to give the States their rightful place in our federal government; we must restore the Constitution and repeal the 17^th amendment.
