Do the Oligarchs Fear the Rise of Actual Republicanism?

Law partners join push to end Electoral College; The Columbus Dispatch

...I'm beginning to think so

Former Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David J. Leland and his law partner, Jon Allison, who served as chief of staff to former Gov. Bob Taft, have signed on to help promote a major change in the way the nation elects a president.

They have joined National Popular Vote, an organization that wants to change the Electoral College by guaranteeing that the candidate who receives the most popular votes in the 50 states would win the presidency. The organization wants a majority of states to join in the system - requiring approval from either the legislatures or state voters.

Leland and Allison are planning to lobby lawmakers to join the system, and they could push for a statewide initiative.

Joe Lieberman's Foolish And Reckless Libya Follies

Joe Lieberman's Foolish And Reckless Libya Follies; The Black Star News

There is enough weaponry in Libya to set the country aflame. For the United States to supply any more weapons to Libya, through rebellious soldiers, as proposed by Senator Joe Lieberman (Democrat, CT,) is like pouring fuel into fire.

It's a very foolish and reckless suggestion from a senator who obviously has no concern about seeing more Libyan bloodshed. Why is Lieberman even making such a call? What could be behind his depraved suggestion? Personal animus towards Muammar Gaddafi would blind him that he can't see the deadly consequences? ...

Is Lieberman, who is retiring from the Senate, a front for some oil company seeking a new deal with the rebels? Indeed, Lieberman has been calling for the rebels in Benghazi to set up a "provisional government," which would presumably be recognized by the United States, maybe at Lieberman's urging, and begin negotiations with Western oil companies? ...

The Saucer is as Hot as the Tea

The Saucer is as Hot as the Tea; Salena Zito; Townhall.com

The only sound visitors hear on the Senate side of the U.S. Capitol on an early Sunday morning is the click of heels on the marble floor, echoing off the 20-foot ceiling.

Hard to imagine that, less than 100 years ago, the men serving here weren’t elected by voters.

“That is because the Framers did not want two chambers to be controlled by the frenzy of popular opinion,” said Senate historian Donald Ritchie.

From 1789 to 1912, senators were elected by state legislatures. That changed in 1913 with ratification of the Constitution's 17th Amendment.

The Senate joined the House in direct elections thanks to the Progressive Era and a series of articles in Cosmopolitan magazine by David Graham Philips, entitled “Treason of the Senate.”

The series helped to create public demand for direct elections, overcoming Senate resistance.

“The Progressives thought that the people would make the right choice in a Senate election,” said Ritchie. In the next election, “all the incumbents who ran, won, and most of the Progressive candidates lost, taking the steam out of the Progressive movement.”

According to legend, George Washington told Thomas Jefferson the Senate’s purpose was to "cool" House legislation just as a saucer cools hot tea.

State Voter Power

In the Great Depression era, my folks voted for Democrat candidates.  They believed the FDR liberalism myth about fixing our economy, and during WWII, they knew in their hearts FDR would defend America. The fact that the Roosevelt family was rich, FDR was an elitist (as shown with his long cigarette holder). Elected Democrats officials were progressive, but were never disconnected to the Depression era voters. People voted for then as they do now based on information released through various news agencies and federal monies flowing into their district.

Voter power or voter impact becomes one key issue in the debate for Repealing the Seventeenth Amendment. Those who oppose repealing the Seventeenth argue it takes away the direct vote of “The People.”

In a letter today to Energy Secretary Steve Chu, the lawmakers wrote that the project “offers a unique capability for the United States and is worthy of national priority.’’ They also wrote that “this project will create an enormous number of jobs at a time when unemployment in Ohio is 9.6 percent and in Pike County, where this project would be located, is at 14.8 percent.’’

Repealing The 17th Amendment: Dealing With Politicians And Special Interests

CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication

Probably one of the toughest obstacles to repealing the 17th amendment is the fact that the careers of senators are put in jeopardy. Many people believe that a constitutional convention by the states is the only possible way to repeal the 17th amendment, which can also be viewed as too risky due to the fact that the Constitution and Bill of Rights might be tampered with. However, there is a very easy way to have a 17th repeal pass Congress.

The 17th amendment, as ratified in 1913, concludes with:
"This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution."

George Washington’s Farewell Address, part II: Other Talking Heads

      Our little town lay close to the Oklahoma Dust Bowl.  Our existence wasn’t as dire as those in “Grapes of Wrath”; energy was aimed toward productivity and survival. Also, folks didn’t bathe very often.  People had larger issues to deal with, and national politics was one. During the Great Depression, American’s were galvanized by what FDR and congress were doing.
      George Washing had great concerns about His nation, and he put his beliefs into action all of his adult life.  In reviewing precepts of different national figures, very few place the good of America above their own intents. Take a look at:
     The Four Freedoms of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s State of the Union address, 01/06/ 1941, was about world government“.., everywhere in the world”. It became part of the Atlantic Charter following WWII.

McCain and Lieberman Inspect Globalist Battlefield

In the wake of massive political uprisings throughout the North African region, globalist Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) have flown to Tunisia to inspect the battlefield and plot their next campaign.

However, as US sponsored dictators are being removed through these firestorms of supposed democracy movements, the State of Arizona is engaged in an actual war with Mexican drug cartels, and Mexican Special Forces routinely conduct assault operations within the state, and in the wake of it all Arizona citizens are being subjected to Homeland Security's unconstitutional assault on civil liberties. In Connecticut the state ranks 45th in economic performance, has massive unemployment and a huge deficit with bankruptcy looming overhead.

So while McCain and Lieberman survey the battlefield and advance the globalist agenda, how well are they representing their respective states in the Federal Government? Well by the looks of it, not too well. I’d say they have failed.

This is a core reason we need to repeal the 17th Amendment and restore the states rightful place within the Federal Government, to stop this maddening globalist and internationalist agenda advanced by these oligarchs. As we clearly witness through the actions of Lieberman and McCain, our elected US Senators do not represent their states, rather the multifaceted web of special interest groups. Their states are sinking and so is the country yet they jet around the world surveying the effects internationalism.

We need to face the truth now: our country is on the verge of disaster and since 1945 the globalists have taken us down a road that has cost us tremendous loss of life, both to our own men and women and to the civilians killed along the way, while spending our hard earned wages fattening the military defense complex, propping up dictators and slowly introducing a Orwellian police state right here at home. This must stop.

Let’s repeal the 17th Amendment before we go down in flames. Let’s remove the oligarchs from Congress and restore limited government before there is uprising in our streets…or should I say before the uprisings spread in our streets.

President George Washington: his farewell address warnings

     Much earlier than his Farewell Address, George Washington served the Virginia Colony, then in the field during the French and Indian wars, endured the harsh winter of Valley Forge, witnessed the world turned upside down at York Town, and fought through two grizzly politically filled terms as our First United States President.  He was exhausted, physically ill, but he had ONE MORE contribution to make for his beloved country.
     His pointed ideas were re-worked by Alexander Hamilton, who was one of the authors of the Federalist Papers.  President Washington’s final address was published on Sept. 19, 1779, and was ten pages in length.  In his words, George Washington shows his great concern about America moving forward.
     His warnings fit our present United States with an every enlarging, intrusive federal government:
• He did not like political parties and warned about divisiveness
   and misuses of lobbying and filibusters;
• He underscores the need for “checks and balances” within the
   national branches of government;
• He states the necessity for universal education;
• He warns about abusing public credit and amassing a national
  debt;
• He admonishes one of his pet issues of neutrality: fairness with
   all foreign nations & not meddle in other nations’ politics.
     Concluding, our First President remarked, “… I anticipate with pleasing expectation that retreat in which I promise myself to realize, with alloy, the sweet enjoyment of partaking, in the midst of my fellow-citizens, the benign influence of good laws under a free government, the ever-favorite object of my heart, and the happy reward, as I trust, our mutual cares, labors, and dangers.” (Taken from: Let Freedom Ring, Sterling Publishing Company, New York; page 82.)
     Note to America's  voteres: as of 02/2011 the United States' national debt exceed 14.4 BILLION dollars.

Podcast: Sen Bill Nelson's Plan for FL AMTRAC; Repeal the 17th Amendment Radio

I completed my first full length podcast today. I wouldn't give myself a passing score; I still have a few things to work out like the pauses and the "uuuhhhsss," not to mention the audio. But the journey of thousand miles begins with one step, and so today I took a step forward.

The talk centered on Senator Bill Nelson's effort to go around Florida Governor Rick Scott's decision to reject the federal money to build a AMTRAC style rail line between Tampa and Orlando. Nelson's actions demonstrate the consequence of the 17th Amendment, where US Senators behave as a "mini-presidents," who further special interest agenda over the will of their respective state and state legislative body, by using the full weight of the Federal and National Governments to impose a given agenda through federal resources, legislation and regulation.

Markets, luxuries and America: 1930's

     Steel was a relatively recent construction material, then.  Bridges, skyscrapers, wheels and cars were mostly iron.  Lots of things simply rusted, losing strenghth.  One break though invention was the "worm gear", which was an elongated piece of steel shaped with twisting grooves.  The earlier gears, used in mahinery, were square, flat, and not precise; these were prone to break.  Worm gears allowed for much more psi tension as well as smoother shifting.  Air plane propellers developed, their number of blades and new designs increased speed.
      Life was simpler then than now.  Yet, the 1930's were more complex than the 1890's.  America has marched forward into a very mobile and style conscious nation.  The Great Generation would not know us.  They fought two World Wars to keep America safe for democracy - - -not for communism, monarchy nor socialism.  They could not understand today's chicanery.
       If today's generation were to encounter a 1930's farmer, a laborer, or a skilled technician ( like a blacksmith), people would guess these old timers as foreigners from an under developed country.  The dialog would experience a wide vocabulary gap, because these folks did not have cell phones, I-pods, internet systems, plastics, synthetics, medical devices, automatic hybrid autos, space stations, frozen foods, American Idol, 9 MM weapons, air conditioning, etc.
      Unfortunately, as America's urban centers life-style imploded, this earlier sense of community and self- reliance vanished.  Our bigger, fast paced, modern society moved to a expect government to provide every day functions that family, freinds and neighbors once did.  The reader can gain a better feel of contrast by reading Sarah Plain's autobiography, "Going Rogue: An American Life".  ( OK... put aside politics; set aside personal views about the former governor.)  DO READ her book for understanding the harsh, rugged life in frontier Alaska.  Do read it for the sense integrating  family, community, self-reliance, and controlling government.  The book has insights about local voter power, demonstrating one's individual abilities for personal achievement.  It prescribes independence, instead of dependency.
      Here's a reality check for you.  Let's say a catastrophe struck America.  Everyone's utilities stopped and became non- functioning: no electricity, no gas, no sewage, no water, and no fuel.  What would you do?  What if all grocery and convenience stores had no food: no canned items, no meat, no fresh vegetables, no bread, etc.  How would you remain alive?  Suppose all medical assistance disappeared.  Who would you sue, or what federal agencies exist to help?
      The folks of the 1930's understood the important basis for survival skills, need for their community network, best use of necessities, and that some things are more valuable than money.  Their government simply ran functional projects, not national mandated programs.  Friendships carried deep meaning, personal responsibility, and support.  Each believed a neighbors surroundings were important, an interlink with the essentials of life.
      America was ornery and as bawdy as ever, but the country was not a selfish place.  There was a belief in our unfilled destiny to greatness: Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.  This core value opened a pathway for personal achievement, rather than an interlocking dependency on government programs.  Ann Rand, author of this era, wrote about America's future.  Her insights about big government are in “Atlas Shrugged". Grab this book off your local library shelf, take notes, and compare. It, too, is a must read.

Perhaps this is nothing new. Giants as diverse as Plato and Mark Twain warn us that democracy can only lead to tyranny. Abraham Lincoln, in one of his earliest public addresses, spoke of the "silent artillery of time" doing more than any external enemy to destroy the Framers' design.

The only remedy is vigilance.

Who Should Pay For Sen Nelson's AMTRAC Style Train System?

Today’s question: Sen. Nelson (FL-D) wants a new rail system for his state: should every American contribute to Nelson’s plan or should this be funded through a private consortium or solely by Florida residents or scrap the idea?

Sen Nelson Representative of the Fed Gov, not Florida

This video of Sen Bill Nelson typifies why the 17th Amendment needs to be repealed. Nelson is working actively to thwart his Governor and the state legislative body, whom constitutionally he is suppose to represent. In this case Nelson is advancing his personnel prerogative and the agenda of special interest groups that back this limited rail system being touted by the President.

The word "no" sure seems to cause quite the firestorm in an era of "adult conversations".

ACU Has Gone Loony

Graham Named ‘ACU Conservative;’ Lindsey Graham

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) was recognized by the American Conservative Union (ACU) for his votes in the last session of the U.S. Senate. Graham voted the conservative position 92 percent of the time in 2010, and the group termed him an ‘ACU Conservative.’

ACU, the largest and strongest grassroots conservative organization, serves as the umbrella organization for conservatives in America. The ratings were released in conjunction with ACU’s annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington last weekend.

Comment: Lord help us if the likes of Senator Lindsey Graham amount for being a (big C) Conservative. No one is more supportive of the police state, big government, internationalism, interventionism, and unsound money, than is Graham. The late Senator Robert Taft must be rolling in his grave right now.

Ted Kennedy shrine set to cost taxpayers lots of money

HT: Twitter@JohnJ

You’ve got to hand it to him, even in death former Democratic Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy can spend the taxpayer’s money and drive conservatives mad.

At issue this go around is an educational institute honoring the late “Hero of Chappaquiddick”: the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. The structure is set to cost taxpayers no more than $68 million, $38.3 million of which has already been appropriated for the project.

CPAC Straw Poll

While this is truly positive, we won't have true governmental reforms, reductions in the national and federal government, reduction of burdensome regulations, reduction of the deficit, ending of the police state, and bringing home of the troops, to name a few pressing issues until the states return to their rightful and constitutional place in Congress. The 17th Amendment must be repealed if we are going to restore federalism. The states are the watchdog that kept the National and Federal Government in check. That was accomplished through the state's "ambassador" to the Federal Government, the US Senator.

No one person in the White House can turn this country around. Only the restoration of the Consitution will ensure the tyrannical government never rises again. But that means the constitutional mechanism have to be restored; the 17th has to be repealed, and the states must have their seat at the table.

So while this video is hopeful, it's not the final solution. But the journey of thousand miles begins with one step...and that step begins with the end in mind...restoration of the Republic.

PATRIOT Act Bill Now Moves to the Senate

House Votes to Extend the PATRIOT Act, Bill Now Moves to the Senate; Open Congress

It’s a little unclear what will happen with this in the Senate. The PATRIOT Act provisions are scheduled to expire on February 28th, so there is a limit on how long the debate can last. To save floor time, Majority Leader Harry Reid [D, NV] would probably prefer to pass this, as is, under a unanimous consent agreement by voice vote. But at least one senator, Rand Paul [R, KY], appears to be ready to block such a motion. In a letter to his colleagues this morning, he called for more deliberation on the bill. “I call upon each of my Senate colleagues to seriously consider whether the time has come to re-evaluate many—if not all—provisions of the PATRIOT Act,” he said. “Our oath to uphold the Constitution demands it.”

Comment: Reid is a coward. Each Senator should be held accountable for their vote concerning this unconstitutional legislation. You can't call Obama Care unconstitutional and yet install a police state that takes away our rights and say it's all for our safety.

Update: Thanks to a reader comment, Rand Paul to the rescue; he blocked the voice vote. Now it will be fully debated.

America Busted

Just a few of us remain, who were born before August 9, 1945.  The world governments shifted from ordinary to sinister.  An American Boeing B-29 named the Enola Gay became that historic first to drop an Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima, Japan.  The A-bomb carried the code name “Little Boy”. A few days later, a second A-bomb, “Fat Boy” was dropped on Nagasaki.  Since that moment in time, any nation can grow into a heinous monster for human destruction.

Sen. Rand Paul At CPAC

"We must be more bold!"

Same Tyranny

      I discovered a unique American History book in our public library.  This printed edition was in the 973, non-fiction section:  Let Freedom Ring’ the Words That Shaped America.  It is a printed compilation of many historic documents, unedited and without commentary.  The reader has the opportunity for an individual perspective.
       One early document was our Declaration of Independence from July, 1776.  This was the thirteen colonies (independent states) grievances against a British tyrant and a Royal parliament.  Many of our Founding Father’s complaints fit our present federal government.
       If you have not read our Declaration of Independence recently, please do.  A few of the egregious government act against citizens were:
  • Imposing taxes under various pretenses;
  • a board of commissioners with unconstitutional powers;
  • at the arbitrary proceedings of parliament and administration;
       Further established in the Declaration of Independence as The English Colonies of North America, by immutable laws of nature, the principles of the English Constitution, and several charters or compacts, have the following rights: (There is an elongated list.)
      ….In 1814, one of our Founding Fathers, John Taylor wrote, “A power to take from a nation, and give to itself, is a strict definition of civilized tyranny."

Why Seventeenth Amendment Can't Be Repealed

Why Seventeenth Amendment Can't Be Repealed; Devvy Kidd

HT: The Ohio Republic

I've only read this once, but plan to sit down with it and go through it much closer. While this article peaks my curiosity, I have seen articles like this before concerning the 17th and 16th that have been proven false. But nonetheless Ms. Kidd's articles are always well written and thoroughly researched so we really need to give it some special attention.

When the First Continental Congress was convened via a resolution of the Congress of the Confederation, one of the first issues discussed on May 29, 1787 [1], was the balance of power for a newly created federal government:

3. Resolved, that the National Legislature out to consist of two branches.

4. Resolved, that the member of the first branch of the National Legislature ought to be elected by the people of the several States every _____ for the term of _____; to be of the age of ____years at least and so forth.

5. Resolved, that the members of the second branch of the National Legislature ought to be elected by those of the first, out of a proper number of persons nominated by the individual Legislatures, to be of the age of ____ years at least and so forth.

James Madison wrote in The Federalist Papers #45: "The Senate will be elected absolutely and exclusively by the State legislatures." [2] John Jay, co-author of The Federal Papers is quoted: "Jay then informed Governor Clinton that, unlike the Senate, where the two-thirds rule was in force for treaties and impeachment, the lower house had nothing to do with treaties; it represented the people whereas the Senate represented the states--for the Federalists always a significant distinction." [3]

The framers of the Constitution wisely understood the absolute necessity of ensuring we the people would have the right to vote for our representative in Congress, and at the same time because they all jealously guarded freedom and liberty, the states must also have equal representation. We the people would have the ability to remove via the ballot box, miscreants and scoundrels, while the state legislatures could recall their U.S. Senators who acted against the best interests of their state.

The Senate was supposed to be a sort of checks and balances, but that noble concept disappeared when U.S. Senators were then voted into office by special interests and mobs demanding more and more from the people's treasury. [4] The absolute right of the states to equal representation was wiped out when the Seventeenth Amendment was declared ratified on April 8, 1913.

I have been on the Seventeenth Amendment non ratification since the mid '90s. More and more Americans are beginning to fully understand the issue of sovereignty, federal jurisdiction and rights of the states. The long over due states' rights movement is growing at lightening speed. Americans are learning about the Tenth Amendment, the Supremacy Clause, the real meaning of the Welfare Clause and nullification. [5]

However, there are some issues under the legislative authority of the U.S. Senate that can't be resolved by the Tenth Amendment -- or not easily without huge court battles. But, then, again, our corrupt judicial system at the federal level is part of the problem. Federal judges, including U.S. Supreme Court Justices, are beholden to the U.S. Senators who vote to confirm them. Critical duties of the U.S. Senate, besides confirming federal judges: confirming cabinet heads and ratifying trade agreements. Both areas that can and have had a negative impact on the states of the Union over the decades.
